Designer & importer of interior household items
ES Consulting is always happy to help our clients overcome challenges and improve the efficiency of their warehouse and stock control systems. Read our latest case study - RV Astley, how Barcoder-250 technology improved warehouse and stock efficiency.
RV Astley, the highly stylish furniture designer and distributor, was tired of losing stock and hitting the productivity wall, as most stock-dependant businesses will know only too well. The company had hit its capacity in terms of efficiency and productivity. However, it knew the business had plenty more scope to grow.
Matthew Morris, company director, RV Astley said: “My concern was with productivity & warehouse efficiency. The orders were coming in, our business was growing. However, we simply couldn’t get our product out the door soon enough. This was due, in the main, to the complicated process of managing and distributing stock, and our old fashioned warehouse management system.”
RV Astley tried everything they could to improve their business efficiency. The old-fashioned warehouse management system of human memory led to nothing more than regular human error. This is not the fault of the staff. The company was, simply, as big as it could be with the current stock control systems in place. That was until Mr Morris found the answer he had been searching for, Barcoder-250. Barcoder-250 is a stock control and warehouse management system which integrates with Sage50 and Sage200.
What is Barcoder-250
Barcoder-250 is simple, yet effective technology. The stock control software is used to scan barcodes on products in and out of the warehouse. Using a handheld device, RV Astley was able to keep an up-to-date check on all activity, without the constant need for manual reassurance. All the data is simultaneously linked to your accounting system, when scanned, so it can be instantly verified. This saves hours in manpower and reporting, thus increasing the ability of the warehouse team to work on their core responsibility - getting products to customers.
The results were instantaneous. A dramatic increase in efficiency meant that RV Astley could generate more revenue without having to increase staff levels. This meant the increase in revenue was an increase in profit.
Mr Morris said: “Since the introduction of Barcoder-250 we have seen an increase of 30% in efficiency. That’s 30% more stock out the door thanks to the system.”
Of course, like any product, there were issues. When first installed the product didn’t print invoices the way RV Astley was used to. However, ES Consulting, the company responsible for Barcoder-250, were on hand to solve these issues without any compromise to Mr Morris and his company.
Morris concludes: “Any company suffering from productivity issues in their warehouse should consider this technology. We cannot see any downside at all. In fact, when we outgrew Sage50, Barcoder-250 was updated to interface with Sage200. We also intend to upgrade further, so the system interfaces with the EDI system of one of our major customers.”
